It's amazing how much stuff is on the web these days. If you want to read about anything, it's probably there – from personal finance and frugal living, to politics, food and fashion.
One thing is clear to me – everyone has a different opinion or way of doing things. Take politics – you have people on the left and those on the right, who seem diametrically opposed and quite often, can't stand each other. It seems they don't want to hear what the other person has to say.
I have to wonder if it's a good idea to react that way.
I have a take on opposing views – I'm all about different perspectives.
I think the key to success and especially, financial success, is to be able to see the other side of the story or what someone else has to offer. This is why I read many different blogs – I read stuff about frugality, making lots of money or even the evils of money and I read stuff of varying tones, from light and airy to the direct and opinionated. I especially read stuff from people that I may not agree with. Why?
Options - I like to see all the options in any situation – this is the best way to make a sound decision.
Learning – I've learned many new ideas and things that have actually changed my mind and made me better with my money.
Fun – I think it's just plain boring if you read everything from people who are like you. Many of my friends are highly diverse and let me tell you, they have opinions and frequently disagree with me … but I find it keeps me sharp and mostly, entertained.
Anyways, it's a good idea to keep this in mind – if you get upset or even offended by something you've read, rather than cutting the 'offensive' material out of your life, ask yourself why you reacted in that manner.
Maybe, because it challenged your current belief system and the way you do things …
